Corrosion Maintenance
Corrosion prevention is an integral part of our approach to helicopter maintenance and repair.
Corrosion is a chemical attack on an aircraft that causes gradual deterioration of the metals and parts that make it up. Many forms of corrosion exist, all caused by varying factors and environmental conditions, and failing to detect and treat it quickly can lead to significant damage. It is a silent enemy that all helicopter operators face no matter where they operate.
Fortunately, it is not a challenge that you have to face alone. PHI is here to assist you whether it’s through our corrosion prevention program or through treating corrosion already present on your aircraft.

Corrosion Maintenance
PHI is an expert in corrosion control with proven methods for corrosion inspection, prevention, and treatment.
This comes from the 74 years that our own fleet has operated in the Gulf of America – a high-risk environment for corrosion. Maintaining our helicopters through these harsh conditions has made our team experts in everything corrosion. Whether a phone consultation or structural repairs, PHI is here to help.

How PHI Can Help:
Our maintenance and repair teams have a deep understanding of corrosion risk factors and how to effectively inspect for, control, and treat corrosion. We have comprehensive corrosion control procedures that combine:
- Cleaning
- Inspection
- Treatment
- Re-application of prevention compounds
Our process follows FAA and manufacturer guidelines while also going further, with meticulous attention given to areas especially prone to corrosion or where it may be hard to spot.
In addition to or corrosion prevention program, PHI also offers corrosion treatment plans. Our teams will conduct thorough examinations to locate and remove every occurrence of corrosion from your helicopter. From there, we will evaluate the damage caused and complete any necessary repairs or replacements.

An Integrated Approach
Corrosion prevention is an integral part of our approach to helicopter maintenance and repair at PHI. Our mechanics begin training in corrosion prevention from apprentice all the way through journeymen. From their first day, everyone is a part of our “all hands on deck” corrosion prevention program.
We employ an integrated approach to corrosion control that covers the whole airframe and encompasses every aspect of its operation. PHI’s strategy is possible because we have:
- Consultation
- Knowledge of manufacturer corrosion control requirements for specific airframes, transmissions, propulsion systems, and avionics/electrical systems.
- An understanding of the risk factors in different operating environments.
- A team trained and experienced in the processes to inspect, control, and treat corrosion.
